This position will focus on climate adaptation, resiliency planning and greenhouse gas mitigation projects primarily for local government and other public agencies, although could also include work for the private sector.
Example Project Types:
Climate Action Plans for cities of a range of sizes
Greenhouse gas inventories and emissions projections
Climate vulnerability and risk assessments for municipalities, transportation agencies, utilities
Resiliency strategies and plans for cities
Climate adaptation strategies for municipalities, transportation agencies, utilities
Cost-benefit analysis for climate adaptation and mitigation plans
Energy efficiency / green building policy modeling
Minimum Requirements
Master's Degree in a relevant field
3+ years of experience at a planning consulting firm, or equivalent
Demonstrated knowledge of local government climate change/sustainability policy and program development is essential
Demonstrated experience conducting research and analysis, writing case studies and reports, supporting proposal writing, and working as part of a team
Experience on climate action planning and adaptation planning essential, particularly policy and program design
Experience on climate change vulnerability and risk assessments that consider an array of climate impacts, including sea level rise, precipitation, and temperature and development of adaptation strategies to reduce impacts
Understanding of greenhouse gas inventory and forecast methodologies and mitigation strategies
Excellent communication and writing skills are critical
Excellent quantitative skills
Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite
Detail-oriented: Strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn more and a desire to work in a dynamic, deadline driven team environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with quantitative/statistical programs desirable
Experience with GIS and other spatial analytical systems
Course work related to sustainability planning (e.g., environmental economics and management) useful
Experience in the related fields (land use planning, urban design, and transportation planning) advantageous
Periodic travel to client side and local offices
